Wisdom in Sexual Relationships In the beginning God created mankind Male and female different physically Gen. 1:27. "It is good" Gen. 1:31. God had a plan for male and female relationships. Satan has tried to destroy God's plan. Since God is the source of wisdom in any area of our life, let us learn and heed what He has to say on this topic: I. The issue of impurity (Pr. 6:24-26; 7:1-5) A. Proverbs speaks directly to men and boys and by implication to women and girls. B. If impurity is avoided, a balanced, healthy view of sexual relationships will prevail. C. If Wisdom is our sister, we'll have a defense against the female or male who wants to go too far, too fast, for the wrong reasons. D. If Insight is a close friend, much that is socially accepted but Biblically prohibited can be avoided (Pr. 2:16-17, 7:4-5) II. The Allure of Impurity (Pr. 5:3, 7:6-23) A. The appeal of the forbidden 1. Lips of loose woman drips honey and her speech is smoother than oil (Pr. 5:3) 2. She dresses sensually, talks a certain way: seductive and coy; flirts with her eyelashes (Pr. 7:10,11,16,21,25) B. Men and boys are easily aroused 1. Satan wants us to view women as playthings. 2. Taught by Hollywood that all girls and women are loose morally. C. Scenario of impurity (Pr. 7:6-23) 1. Foolish man led to slaughter by impure woman whose husband is out of town. 2. He's caught in a trap and doesn't know it; he dies a little inside; he'll never be the same. 3. Movie, food, dance, park 4. Business lunch, work late at office, dinner with boss or secretary- you share your problems, cry on each other's shoulder, become emotionally attached- physical attraction follows. 5. Satan breaks down our defenses; PG-PG13-R-X, TV, magazines, music, video games, dress in public, beach. We get numb and accept sexual immorality. III. The Outcome of impurity (pr. 5:4-23;6:27-35; 7:24-27) A. Ruin, disgrace, folly, death 1. Can a man take fire in his bosom and not be burned; can he walk on red-hot coals without scorching his feet? (Pr. 6:27-28) 2. Guilt, violence, unwanted children, disease. B. Enslaved by sin- need bigger and bigger fix. 1. A trap...bitter conscience. 2. Damaged character and reputation 3. Senselessly and needlessly harms yourself, your mate, your family, your parents. C. Makes you a castaway in God's kingdom. IV. The Response to Temptation A. Keep away (Pr. 5:7-8) run for your life. 1. Avoid dances, theaters, rock concerts, immodest dress, provocative music, parking, being alone with someone of the opposite sex in tempting situation. 2. Joseph fled- David didn't. Look at the results B. Married folks: Stay at home (Pr. 5:15-18) 1. Drink from your own cistern- be true to your own husband or wife. 2. Pray for your love and faithfulness to grow. 3. Keep your romance alive- eliminate things which drive a wedge in your marriage. Summary 1. God has a perfect plan for sexual relationships for all men, boys, women, and girls. 2. Seeking God's wisdom and obeying his instructions brings joy and fulfillment. 3. Avoid tempting situations like the plague. 4. Keep yourself pure for your future wife or husband. Set and demand high Biblical standards or morality from those you date. 5. Husbands and wives, build up your mate, be true to each other, serve God together. True Joy and Happiness- "It is good!"
